Dr Upinderjit Kaur said that India was a multi-cultural country with diverse states comprising different people who speak different languages. She said India was a great example of unity in diversity. “People of every state want to see their respective languages prosper. As far as Punjabi is concerned, the language is very popular not only in the country but also in many foreign countries,” she said.
Speaking on the occasion, Ludhiana MP Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said that writers and literary people were a treasure of the society and they play an important role in the formation of an evolved society by removing the social evils through their writings. He called upon the education minister to honour the writers and literary people. A number of writers and scholars also spoke on the occasion.
