Pune An exhibition of art works by undertrials and convicts who are currently lodged in jails across the state will be held at Kamalnayan Bajaj Art Gallery at Nariman point in Mumbai. The exhibition, which is organised by Kavita Shivdasani is titled 'Art from behind bars' and would be held between March 25 and 29, said Asim Sarode, city-based human rights activist and lawyer, who ideated the event. "Undertrials and convicts from Nagpur central jail, Byculla jail in Mumbai, Yerawada central prison in Pune and other jails would present their artworks at the exhibition," he said while speaking at a press conference here.

This exhibition would be an innovative step towards rehabilitation of undertrials and convicts in different prisons of Maharashtra. This activity would motivate them. Such initiatives are necessary to give the present trodden prison system a positive outlook, he added.

Art from behind bars (AFBB) by Shamira sibal on 12 Apr 2009

To the Indian Express,I have seen the article narrated by the Indian Express about the 'Yerawada jail inmates to exhibit their art works in Mumbai,' displayed on the 13th of March, 2009, and think that the credit of the exhibition should have been given to Kavita Shivdasani as well as the children who attend the 'Know your Environment' class slightly more then given, as we have done most of the exhibition organizing, and have earned the money so that this event could be held at the Bajaj art gallery, opposite the Inox theatre. Also, we would have found it better if your reporters would have checked about the facts before they were printed this article. Thank you.Regards,Shamira Sibal, age 10.

what happened to the earlier four comments. the reporter who filed this story appears to be embarrassed he has not done his home-work. who said mr. asim sarode ideated this concept. he had NOTHING to do with the creation, conceptualization or realization of this project.NOW HAVE THE COURAGE TO KEEP THIS POST INSTEAD OF DELETING THEM AS YOU HAVE DONE WITH THE EARLIER FOUR

i from know your" environmentt class" have been in discusion of a topic,"ART FROM BEHIND BARS".This means some criminalss are very good artists and have amazing paintings. We have put up an art gallery of these paintings .This art gallery is bajaj art gallery opposite Inox theatre. We have been working on this topic from 2007 and have tried our best to reach this goal of ours. There are about 60 frames. We were having shortage of money so some of us went door to door and were taking money from our neighbours. From two rupees and five rupees they raised up quite large amounts.i helped by giving out pamphlet..I feel that we should not feel pity and buys these paintings but with our own likes we should buy them.we are helping them because every one should be given another chance

Art from Behind Bars..... by Kavita Shivdasani on 19 Mar 2009

the art show has been entirely conceptualized, created and has seen the light of day thanks to all the youngsters associated with Know Your Environment and full co-operation of Jail Authorities. Ask your reporter to verify their sources before publication

as a member of Art From Behind Bars just a random thought cannot lead to the creation and conceptualization of an art event of this magnitude.kindly give credit to the people its due to.

Journalists of today really need to get there facts correct and not simply hear and write whatever is told. sources need to be checked and verified. An exemplary news paper like the Indian Express, i am sure recruits competent people to do there journalism. There is great deal involved in making a project come through more than a mere random thought - ideated !
