Ludhiana Yet another undertrial escaped from police custody after he was produced in a local court this afternoon.

Dharamjit Singh, a resident of Sarabha village, was arrested by the Jagraon police in June 2008 in a case of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act along with some accomplices.

According to the police, Dharamjit, who was lodged in Central Jail was brought to a local court today. Sources said that after his hearing was over, the accused asked Malkiat Singh, the constable accompanying him, to allow him meet his lawyer on the pretext of discussing his case.

While the constable was taking him to the lawyer, he gave him a slip.

The matter was then brought in the notice of the Division number 5 police station. The police have registered a fresh case against Dharamjit Singh. Constable Malkiat Singh, meanwhile, has also been booked for being negligent in performing his duty.
