Lucknow With young India being the focus in this general election, The Indian Express has taken up the cause of making them aware and ready for the polls through its campaign ‘I Count’. The newspaper will also assist them with having their voter card if they don’t have it.

From Wednesday (March 4) noon onwards, a daylong camp will be held at Lalit Hall of the College of Arts and Sculpure, Lucknow University on Wednesday in this regard.

“This is a golden opportunity for students to become an integral part of the democratic system and avail of their voter ID card, which is their indispensable proof of Indian citizenship,” says Bhupesh Chandra Little, Principal of Arts College.

The Indian Express has joined hands with Janaagrah, an NGO working for mobilising first-time voters to the polling booth. The camp looks at the dual purpose of enlisting the eligible voters and creating awareness among youth towards their responsibility as a citizen to choose their public representatives.

“It is the time of annual exams, yet a few minutes spent visiting the camp would be well worth, especially, for students who have yet to procure their voter card,” says Little, adding that the Lalit Hall of the college, which serves usually as the exam room, would be the venue for the camp.

Volunteers from The Indian Express and Janaagrah, and officials from the election office, will be present at the venue. Janaagrah members will help students get forms filled electronically, following which hard copies of the requisite documents and form will be handed over to the person concerned from the EC’s office.

“Any bona fide student of the Lucknow University, from any affiliated college, can produce his/her student identity card and benefit from the camp,” said Little, adding the entry would be allowed only after 12 noon, when the ongoing exam at the college is over.
