Youth group raises funds for underprivileged children

Chandigarh, March 1 In collaboration with Chandigarh Police, Youth United organised an event ‘Smiling Future’ to raise funds for the underprivileged and mentally challenged children of the city. Donations worth Rs 40,000 were collected for this purpose.

These would be distributed among six institutes including Hamari Kaksha, Pustak, Prayas, Theatre Age, Sadhna and a centre run by St Stephen’s School, Sector 45.

The event saw cultural performances by students of the schools for the underprivileged and the mentally challenged. It provided a platform to the students to showcase their talent. Dance and theatre groups presented different items on the occasion.

The issue of drug-addiction was given importance. A play on drug de-addiction was staged by students of Theatre Age. ASP Madhu Verma highlighted the ill effects of drugs.

Saloni Bajaj, a member of the group, revealed that children would be provided books, clothes, food, etc under this initiative.

Youth United aims to provide a common platform to all sections of the society, thus contributing towards national integrity, fraternity and prosperity.
