Kolkata A youth died of bullet injuries on Thursday night after he was shot by his friends following a quarrel.

Anand Reddy (24) was returning home after attending a New Year party when he was shot at allegedly by his friends on Madhav Ghosh Road in Golabari in Howrah. He was admitted to SSKM Hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. So far, the police have arrested two persons — Krishna and Vikram — in connection with the murder.

Reddy, originally from Chennai, had been living in Howrah for the last four-five years with his aunt, and worked as an electrician.

S K Jain, Additional Superintendent of Police, Howarh said investigation is being carried out.

While the police are not willing to reveal anything on the matter, sources in the area said there could have been some old rivalry among the three that could have led to an altercation. According to sources in the police, there was a third person accompanying them on the fateful night but he is yet to be traced.

Four of them, including the victim, lived in the same neighbourhood of Golabari for the past few years and all of them worked as small time electricians in the area.
