The victim, identified as Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Bharthla Randhawa village, died on the spot as the bullet hit him in back. The accused was identified as Shingara Singh, a resident of Mullanpur village.
Both Sukhwinder Singh and Shingara Singh had a heated argument over a minor issue, which led to the incident. Police said Shingara Singh fired two shots from his pistol. He fired one shot in the air and hit Sukhwinder with the other one, which proved to be fatal.
Payal SHO Naveen Kumar told Newsline, “Shingara Singh was on his way to his village in his car. On the way, he met Sukhwinder Singh at Jorre Pul at about 8.30 pm.”
The SHO said that both fell into a heated argument. Sukhwinder Singh alleged that his father Nahar Singh, who was working as a driver at a nearby brick-kiln, was dismissed from service at the behest of Shingara Singh.
Naveen Kumar further pointed out, “The argument took an ugly turn, as Shingara Singh took out his pistol and fired at Sukhwinder Singh. One bullet hit him.” The case was registered on the complaint of Sukhwinder Singh’s mother Manjit Kaur. The SHO revealed that no arrest has been made yet.
