Ambala A Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate from Ambala (Reserved) parliamentary constituency was slapped on Saturday by a youth while he was addressing an election meeting at village Chhaju Majra under Shehzadpur block in the district.

The incident occurred when Chanderpal was criticising a particular political party and a youth stood up and went to the dais. He slapped the politician in full public view and walked away.

While BSP workers chased the youth, Chanderpal restrained them from catching him. Following this, the youth slipped away from the meeting venue.

Chanderpal however, criticised the opposition parties, including the Congress and BJP-INLD, and said they feared the increasing popularity of his party.

He said the act of the youth will not dishearten or discourage him and his supporters from campaigning.

Chanderpal brushed aside the demand of the party workers to lodge a complaint with the police as he said, “There is no need to go to the police because we are capable of dealing with such elements.”

He added the incident had been brought to the notice of the party high command and said that they would act according to the directions of the party leaders if any such incidents were to take place in the future.
