Chandigarh Four people stabbed a 21-year-old youth with scissors after an altercation at the Parade Ground late on Friday night. Vinod alias Kala, a resident of Indira colony, worked for a contractor dealing in swings and merry-go-rounds.

All the four accused have been arrested by the police and charged with murder.

The police said the deceased had gone to meet Gurjeet (55) and his friends Jasjeet (50), Sandeep (21) and Vicky (26), at the Parade Ground to recover the airgun of his friend, Kamal.

“Kamal, who runs a shop at the grounds, had borrowed some money from Gurjeet and had not been returning it. Gurjeet took Kamal’s airgun on Friday. Today, Vinod had gone to Gurjeet to claim the gun,” sources said.

ASP Madhur Verma said Gurjeet and Vinod entered into verbal duel after the former refused to return the gun.

“All four accused were in an inebriated state at the time of the incident. Gurjeet and Vinod soon entered into fisticuffs and in an attempt to save himself, Gurjeet stabbed the victim several times with a pair of scissors,” he added.

Eyewitnesses informed the police who rushed Vinod to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16.

He was later referred to the PGI after his condition deteriorated. Doctors said he died due to excessive bleeding and grievous internal injuries.

The four were arrested following police raids at several places. They have been booked under Section 302 of the IPC. The accused reportedly told the police that they were under the influence of liquor and could not control themselves after the quarrel.
