Vinod alias Kala, a resident of Indira colony, worked for a contractor dealing in swings and merry-go-rounds. All the four accused have been arrested by the police and charged with murder.
Police said the deceased had gone to meet Gurjeet (55) and his friends Jasjeet (50), Sandeep (21) and Vicky (26), at the Parade Ground to take back the airgun of his friend, Kamal.
“Kamal, who runs a shop at the grounds, had borrowed some money from Gurjeet and had not been returning it. Gurjeet took Kamal's airgun on Friday. Today, Vinod had gone to
Gurjeet to claim back the gun,” sources said.
ASP Madhur Verma said Gurjeet and Vinod entered into verbal duel after he refused to return the gun. “All four accused were in an inebriated state at the time of the incident. Gurjeet and Vinod soon entered into fisticuffs and in an attempt to save himself, Gurjeet stabbed the victim several times with a pair of scissors,” he added.
Eyewitnesses informed the police who rushed Vinod to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16. He was later referred to the PGI after his condition deteriorated. Doctors said he died due to excessive bleeding and grievous internal injuries.
The four were arrested following police raids at several places. They have been booked under Section 302 of the IPC. The accused reportedly told the police that they were under the influence of liquor and could not control themselves after the quarrel.
16-yr-old raped
A 16-year-old girl was raped by an acquaintance at her Sector-37 residence three days ago. The matter came to light after the girl's parents filed a complaint late on Friday night.
Police said the parents have accused one Rajbir, a resident of Rohtak, of rape. According to the police, the victim's parents had gone out of station, leaving the victim and their younger daughter at home. Rajbir, an insurance agent, works with one of the victim's father's friend. “He knew the family well and would visit them often," sources said. The accused would travel to the city once or twice in a week, sources added. "Three days ago, Rajbir visited their home and found the young girls alone. He asked her younger sister to go to other room. He bolted the room and raped her. He also threatened her to not disclose the incident to anybody," the police said. A day later, the victim informed her mother about the incident over the phone. "On Friday night, the parents formally registered a complaint. Theaccused is yet to be arrested.
