Guwahati,
April 14: Guwahati, April 14: THE ruling Asom Gana Parishad
(AGP), which forged an alliance with the BJP earlier this week,
has now entered into a formal understanding with the All Bodo Students
Union (ABSU) and Bodo Peoples Action Committee (BPAC) to jointly
contest the ensuing Assembly polls in Assam.
As per the understanding
reached yesterday, the ABSU-BPAC combine will field candidates in
eight Assembly constituencies, apart from having a friendly
contest with the AGP and BJP in three others.
The ABSU-BPAC
is the second ally of the AGP, which had earlier called off its
alliance with the CPI, CPI(M) and United Peoples Party of
Assam (UPPA) formed on the eve of the 1996 elections.
Earlier last
week, the regional party had formed an alliance with the BJP, while
it is likely to formalise an alliance with the Autonomous State
Demand Committee in a couple of days, party sources said.
The ABSU-BPAC
combine, had allied with the BJP in the 1998 and 1999 Lok Sabha
elections, with the BPAC supporting the Bodo nominee in the Kokrajhar
Lok Sabha constituency on both occasions.
