Congress workers united against LDF: Murali

Says problems within party won’t reflect in poll result

Express News Service

Alappuzha, April 18: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee vice-president and Parliament member K. Muralidharan, yesterday said that the problems in the Congress were not fully settled and some minor issues, which could not be solved on an impulse, were still pending.

According to Muralidharan, differences in opinion were a part of every democratic party like Congress. ‘‘But our internal problems will not be reflected in the elections and the Congress workers will unite to see that the LDF government does not come to power again,’’ he said.

Referring to Cherian Philip opting to contest from Puthupally constituency as an Independent candidate, he said that there was still time for him to think and come back to Congress.

Disciplinary action would be taken against him if he contests polls with support from the LDF, he added.

Regarding complaints that the youth had not been properly represented in Congress’ list of candidates, Muralidharan said the party had announced its list of candidates and had tried to accomodate all its sitting MLAs. There would not be any change in it again and strict action would be taken against those who contest as rebel candidates, he said.

When asked whether he was an aspirant for the chief minister’s position and whether his party was portraying him as one, the KPCC vice president said: ‘‘I am satisfied with the position I am holding. I am not a chief ministerial candidate of the UDF. The chief ministerial candidate will be decided by the MLAs and the final word will be that of the high command.’’

Muralidharan flayed the LDF government in the state for its anti-people policies and added that the people of the state are longing to see the end to this government. ‘‘Corruption charges are being levelled against the Marxist leaders and ministers. Even their allies have raised corruption charges against LDF convener V.S. Achuthanandan.’’

Expressing possibilities of BJP opening its account in the state Assembly with the help of the LDF, he alleged that there were moves from the Marxist party to vote for C.K. Padmanabhan, the BJP candidate from Manjeshwaram.
