Websites in Kerala have latest information on past

One claims Idukki candidate is still state EC

Biju Govind

Kochi, May 1: Our sympathies if you are following the Kerala elections on state government-run websites. For if meaty content is what you wanted consider these sites as good as dead.

Here’s why: Information Kerala Mission’s keralaelection.com has just a scroll text: ‘‘This site is under construction. We’ll be back in a week’s time with widespread information.’’ There are two other links — IT and Kids and IT@Palakkad — no way connected to the polls.

The state’s Centre for Development of Imaging Technology (C-DIT) has created electionkerala.net. The site gives you details about anything and everything but the election scene — an education seminar conducted in December 26-30 last year, information on school curriculum or IT related programmes.

C-DIT registrar-in-charge G. Jayaraj assures the site will be updated as soon as they get the required data. ‘‘We will most probably do it in a phased manner in a couple of days,’’ he says. If you thought the official websites of the Election Commission of India — eci.gov.in and india-election.com — would be the saving grace, consider this: The site has details of previous elections in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Kerala and not a line on the countdown to May 10.

The Elections 2001 page of india-election.com has statistics of previous Assembly elections and General Elections held in 1996: highlights, performance of political parties, profiles of constituencies and candidates, polling stations, number of women candidates and results.

Seckerala.org wants its viewers to believe that M.S. Joseph, who resigned as State Election Commission to contest the Idukki seat, is still holding office. For your general knowledge, it has webpages on the last panchayat polls with partywise break-up of seats in the gram, block and district level.
