six Kerala seats sensitive: HC

Kochi, May
4: The Kerala High Court today asked advocate K. Radhakrishnan,
counsel for the Election Commission, to inform the Chief Electoral
Officer of Kerala to treat Cherthala, Thiruvananthapuram and Ambalappuzha
as sensitive areas along with northern Kerala and to take adequate
measures for the conduct of a free and fair election there.
The direction was issued by Justice M. Ramachandran while closing
six writ petitions filed by United Democratic Front (UDF) candidates
contesting elections from Thiruvananthapuram West, Kannur, Alappuzha,
Chadayamangalam, Kayamkulam and Chittur asking the concerned authorities
to take adequate measures including deployment of central forces
during the polls.
The writ petitions filed by Communist Marxist Party leader M.V.
Raghavan, Congress leader Prayar Gopalakrishnan and others were
closed after recording a statement filed on behalf of the Chief
Electoral Officer (CEO) recounting the adequate and effective security
measures for the conduct of proper polls.
According to the CEO, adequate police force has been deployed throughout
the state and 30 companies of central paramilitary forces and 14,000
special police officers have also been deployed .
