Action on sex charge stares Kerala candidate in the face

Express News Service

Malappuram, May 9: DGP P.R. Chandran has directed the Kozhikode Police Commissioner to act on a complaint filed by Nilambur Divisional Forest Officer Prakriti Srivastava, alleging sexual harassment by former Transport Minister and Janata Dal(S) leader A. Neelalohithadasan Nadar.

Responding to two letters from Prakriti, dated March 28 and April 16 and demanding registration of a case against Nadar for the alleged harassment, the DGP said he was forwarding both complaints to the Commissioner so that necessary action may be initiated.

Neelalohithadasan Nadar is currently contesting the Assembly elections from Kovalam constituency. Stree Vedi activists, who have been spearheading a campaign against contestants tainted in sex scandals, had launched a stir against Nadar in Kovalam a few days ago.

Officials said the alleged harassment amounts to an offence under Section 354 of IPC, and action under Vishaka guidelines would mean initiating criminal proceedings by registering the crime and providing support services and counselling.

During investigation into the complaint against former Transport Secretary Nalini Netto’s complaint against Nadar, Prakriti had been summoned under section 160 of CRPC by Additional Director-General of Police Crimes R.S. Mushahari to appear before him in May last year. Prakriti reportedly gave details of the alleged sexual harassment by Nadar.

In Malappuram, unidentified men tried to disrupt the campaign of the Kerala Stree Vedi against P.K. Kunhalikutty at Edakkulam in Kuttippuram Assembly constituency on Tuesday. The mike used by the activists was destroyed and banners torn. Policemen deployed at the spot reportedly remained passive spectators. The activists continued their campaign through pamphlets.

Stree Vedi began their campaign on Sunday at Edakkulam against IUML leader Kunhalikutty for his alleged involvement in the infamous Kozhikode ice-cream parlour case.

The meeting was disrupted by a group of alleged Muslim League workers. It was with the support of various organisations and individuals that the activists decided to resume their campaign at the same venue on Tuesday.
