Manimaran new president of Pondicherry PMK

Pondicherry: N.Manimaran, high level committee member and former education minister has been appointed as the president of the Pondicherry unit of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), according to a communication from G.K Mani, president of the party.

V.Shankaran, vice-president of the party, who was one among the dissidents to desert the party, today came back into the party. Later speaking to press persons he accused the DMK of trying to take advantage of the dissatisfaction prevailing among party functionaries on account of their not being given tickets for contesting the elections and discontentment with party leadership and had tried to split the party.

Sankaran said that though along with M.Manjini, Pondy PMK convenor and Justice Govindrajan, high level committee member along with Pondicherry DMK Convenor, R.V Janakiraman had left for Tiruchi unknowingly (where DMK Chief and TN CM, M.Karunanidhi was addressing a public meeting), he denied that there had been any intention to join DMK and the members returned back to Pondicherry as soon as they were aware of the intentions of Janakiraman.

He said that he had come back after the PMK founder leader asked him to reconsider the decision to resign from the party and indicated that the other functionaries who left the party would also be rejoining the PMK.

N.Manimaran who addressed a press conference in the presence of Shankaran said that the party had grown in strength and there were about 2000 volunteers in each constituency. Along with AIADMK the party would do well and will form the government in the UT after the polls.
