not in Congress list

Pondicherry Chief Minister N T Shanmugam's name does not figure
in the Congress list released on Saturday by the AICC. Significantly,
none of names of the prominent leaders from Pondicherry like, PCC
President V Narayanswamy and MP M O H Farooq figure in the list.
According to
sources, Chief Minister N T Shanmugam was keen to contest from Yanam
but the Congress High Command has decided not to give him the ticket
and has instead made up her mind to give it to an Independent candidate.
For record, the name of the candidate from Yanam has been kept pending,
leaving it to the discretion of the Chief Minister and the PCC President.

Releasing the
list, AICC General-Secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad informed that all
the top leaders of the state have opted out from contest as they
want to devote full-time in canvassing. "This will enable them
to devote much of their time in campaigning," he remarked.
The Congress
will be contesting 21 seats while there is still the last-minute
tussle going-on between the TMC and the CPI on the number of seats
to contest. The TMC is keen to contest 6 seats while giving 3 to
the CPI.
Out of the nine
MLAs, the eight who are the Ministers have all been given tickets
except the Chief Minister himself. It is learnt that the Congress
doesn't want to project anyone as the Chief Minister before elections
and this is the reason that Congress leadership has kept itself
out of the controversy by denying the tickets to all the senior
leaders.
