Conduct of civic polls tops CPI agenda

Pondicherry: The conduct of the local body elections in the Union Territory of Pondicherry featured as the prime agenda of the CPI, according to the party election manifesto released by the Secretary of the Pondicherry unit of the party Nara Kalainathan on Monday.

CPI has promised to take steps to hold the Local body elections within six months if the alliance is voted to power.The party would revamp the functioning of the public distribution system so that the benefits reaches the masses. Assurance has been given by the party to take measures for increase of reservation for BC and MBC to 50 percent.

A vibrant industrial policy ensuring employment to local youth and efforts will be made to bring the NTC-owned mills, Bharathi and Swadeshi under Pondicherry Textile Corporation. It would also strive for the setting up of a welfare board for labourers in the unorganised sector.

The party has also promised development in the agriculture sector and welfare of farmers, fishermen, youth, women and government employees.
