Sun TV poll gives slight edge to DMK, but Jaya’s not far behind

Express News Service

Chennai, May 6: An opinion poll conducted by SUN TV-Apt Research Group has predicted that the DMK-led front would secure between 123 and 130 seats in the Tamil Nadu state Assembly.

Surprisingly, the AIADMK is not far behind. The opinion polls have predicted 102 to 109 seats for the AIADMK-led alliance, leaving just two seats for other parties.

According to a press statement from SUN TV, the DMK front is likely to have a vote share of 47.20 per cent, followed by the AIADMK with 44.04 per cent — a difference of a mere 3.16 per cent. MDMK and others are likely to get 3.91 per cent and 2.46 per cent respectively. The opinion poll was conducted by Apt TV Research Group between April 30 and May 4, in 25 Assembly constituencies. The company has been saying that these opinion polls are more accurate as they were conducted after Jayalalitha’s nominations were rejected.

While 54.84 per cent of the 6,200 respondents (all eligible voters) rated the performance of the DMK government better than the previous AIADMK regime, 50.18 per cent preferred M. Karunanidhi as the next chief minister and 35.17 per cent of them preferred J. Jayalalitha.
