Reliance Systems plans training unit for Y2K problem

BANGALORE, May 17: Reliance Systems Pvt Ltd (RSPL) will launch a training division devoted entirely for the Y2K problem on the IBM mainframe environment. Addressing newsmen here managing director, V Ramakrishna said that since this problem involved software portfolios of legacy systems, the training will be focussed on the IBM Mainframe platforms. The six-week course which will commence shortly, will train 30 professional at a time and another 120 through the RSPL associates. The programme will cost Rs 30,000 per person. Reliance Systems Pvt Limited, incorporated three months ago, has 100 professional spread across its three units in Bangalore, Shimoga and Mysore in Karnataka. The company has four other division- consultancy, software development, data services and product sales. The new education and training division is equipped with pentium workstations with IBM Mainframe work benches from Micro Focus and Computer Associates, USA. The division will include training of ERP packages and EDI implementation concepts in the near future, Ramakrishna revealed. The software product portfolio of the company includes air traffic control and command control display systems, solid state radar systems, power semi-conductors, turbine generators, diagnostic systems and advanced DBC subtracts for global organisations like Kongberg Norcontrol Systems, NEC-ITOCHU, SAnrex, Dupont, Curamik, GEA-EGI, Ganz Ansaldo and Westinghouse.According to Ramakrishna, the company hopes to record a turnover of Rs 8-10 crore for 1996-97.
