Governance by the market
The Egon on Zahnder survey on corporate governance in India clearly reveals that despite all the hi-falutin' talk on introducing corporate best practices in the country, companies are apt to take a much more hard-headed view on the subject in private. The CII may publish model codes galore, but the same corporate chieftains who make up that august body seem to be rather sceptical about the actual impact of such models of governance.

The rain God smiles again
Projections of a tenth successive good monsoon imply that at least climatic factors will not intervene with the continued revival of agricultural output. Much will depend upon the distribution and timing of the rains, as even a "normal" monsoon saw lower agricultural output in 1995-96.
