Air India signs productivity-based wage agreement
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
New Delhi, June 7: Air-India (A-I) has signed a productivity-linked wage pact with the cabin crew association (AICCA) revising their pay-scales and other allowances, introducing performance-linked incentive payment and a new promotion policy. The agreement, which will affect a key section of the national carrier's employees, will give an average increase of about 50 per cent or more to its 1800-and-odd cabin crew, airline sources said. A series of discussions was held between the management and the association, which led to the signing of the agreement on Friday. The promotion policy envisages a career progression for the entire crew irrespective of their working position in the aircraft. It would also provide an opportunity to both male and female crew members to reach the executive level of manager in 22 years, they said. This is the first productivity-linked wage pact Air India has signed with its air crew. The national carrier has already entered into separate agreements with the different sections of the ground staff, including the commercial staff. The revision of scales of pay and other allowances is applicable from September 1990 to December 1991 and from January 1992 to December last year. The performance-linked incentive payment will be based on availability of crew during the month, the sources said. All flight-related allowances will henceforth be linked to the hours flown. Other features include reduction in time-off after crew return to the base, extension of flight duty-time limitation by one hour out of base for single-sector flights.
