Stratasys Inc unveils new prototype

Bangalore, June 7: Stratasys Inc, a pioneer in the rapid prototyping industry, has launched its latest FDM 8000. The product is designed to create large prototypes as well as tooling patterns and masters for casting using ABS plastic. Stratasys will position the FDM 8000 to cater to needs of the manufacturers in aerospace and automotive industries with each unit costing $200,000. The company's current product line includes Genisys used for quick three-dimensional prints (cost $65,000), FDM 2000 with a higher speed and output (cost $160,000) and FDM 1650 ($125,000). Genisys will receive special attention as major enhancements like new material, improved design and better control will be added to these machines. Rapid prototyping industry worldwide has grown at a pace of 46 per cent over the last two years. The new class of products, 3D printers and concept modelers promises to expand the market further. By the industry criteria, the Chrysler speedometer ABS part, Stratasys products are rated quite high. The company has recorded a turnover $23 million for 1996, having sold 257 units.The company officials are bullish about India and expect the market to grow at a rate of 90-95 per cent.
