Marketplace Briefing -- Jumpin' slurps into Frooti market

MUMBAI, June 23: Three months after Godrej Foods relaunched Jumpin' in all new packaging, the company claims that it has garnered a 40 per cent market share (previously 30 per cent). This means that since Januray this year, the company has upped its share by 10 per cent. So, is that is Jumpin' (on an all India basis) biting into the market share of Parle Agro's Frooti?

Counterclaiming this, the latter states that Frooti enjoys a market share of 85 per cent on an all India basis. With the launch of Yo Frooti some weeks back, Parle says that its share is expected to go up further. According to Samsika retail barometer, Frooti leads with around 78 per cent share while Jumpin' has around 20-22 per cent share. Retailers in Mumbai say that the city is driven by Frooti, with Jumpin' at the second spot. Volume-wise the tetrapak industry is around 15-18 million trays (27 cases per tray). This would value at over Rs 200 crore.

Kokum in tetrapak from now: The delicious nectar of the Kokum fruit has long been a traditional favourite drink in Maharashtra and other coastal areas. For the first time, this product will now be available in a ready to serve tetrapak packaging. `Kool Kokum' has all the goodness traditonally associated with Kokum in its natural form with no added preservatives and blends the sweet and sour Kokum flavour with a tangy touch in a convenient 200 ml tetrapak. It has been launched in Mumbai and Pune with other cities to follow shortly.

Hi-fi music systems from Philips: Philips India has launched two premium hi-fi music systems - Marantz Gold and Slim Series - designed to reproduce pure sound for the discerning music connoisseurs. The Gold, priced at Rs 1.35 lakh, and the Slim, priced at Rs 85,000, will be available at 12 select showrooms in the metros. The Marantz champagne Gold Series with the vibration-free chassis of the CD player and the current conversion noise eliminator filter circuit which pushes down the frequency and amplitude of the vibration elements are true music to one's ears. The Slim Series is one of Philips' most popular products. The elegantly designed three-piece system is equipped with all the technology today's music lover needs. There are also two satellite speakers of high frequencies and a mighty sub-woofer for enhanced bass response.

Zenith launches One Up PC: PC Hardware maker Zenith has launched the `Zenith the One Up PC' for Rs 39,900. The multimedia machine comes with a Pentium 120 Mhz, a eight MB EDO RAM, one GB hard disk and 14" colour monitor. The product comes with a one year warranty.

Thompson exchange mela: Thompson has jumped on the exchange mela bandwagon. The company has offered seven models of Thomson from which customer has to choose for getting rid of the old colour television. The exchange price for its models RC 14 is Rs 7,797, Quadra 14 is 8,797, RC 20 10,997, Quadra 20 11,997, Futura 21 13,997, Fusion 21 17997, and Quadra 21 18,997. For hire purchase the company is not asking for a downpayment or processing fee and the consumer has to pay a monthly instalment for 18 months at the rate of Rs 551, Rs 621, Rs 776, Rs 847, Rs 988, Rs 1,270 and Rs 1,341 for the models mentioned above. Among the features available in the models are Nicam digital and German A2 stereos, 16:9 wide format multi-system and hyperband.

BPL Mobile offers Instamobile: BPL Mobile has launched its new value added product - Instamobile. The service is basically to provide the customer instant service by offering an activated and ready to use mobilephone over the counter. Available at BPL Mobile Galleries in Mumbai, the service is provided at no extra cost. Infact, BPL Mobile is backing this product with a service guarantee card where, if the customer does not receive his activated mobilephone in an hour after he has selected the mobilephone of his choice, BPL Mobile will offer the customer free airtime worth Rs 500. The company is focussing on the retail segment in Mumbai, for an instant purchase.

Quantas offer to fliers: To celebrate its one-year operations in the country, Qantas, the Australian Airline is offering one free ticket on purchase one ticket to Australia on excursion fare. While the journey can be made before September 30, and return by October 31 this year the ticket should be bought between July 1-10.

Castrol freebie offer: Castrol is offering a free heavy duty coolant pouch worth Rs 75 and Rs 45 with five litres and three litres of Castrol GTX extra respectively.
