Movers & Shakers -- McGregor moves to Singapore


Senior vice-president, advertising sales of STAR TV, Rowan McGregor, has shifted from Hong Kong to STAR TV's Singapore sales office. His move is a result of STAR TV's participation in a number of new ventures and record advertising sales growth in South-East Asia.

Robert Bland, STAR TV director of sales, says: ``Rowan has 20 years in television advertising sales, making him critical to cultivating our business opportunities and boosting our growth in South-East Asia.'' Over the next 12-18 months, McGregor will establish contacts and monitor the growth of the South-East Asian region.

Colliers Jardine CEO

Akshaya Kumar is the new chief executive officer of Colliers Jardine, India. Kumar has spent seven years with Citibank India, almost all of which has been in the mortgage division. He has played a key role in setting up the retail mortgage proposition as well as the Non-Resident Indian Mortgage programme. He has run asubstantial developer loan portfolio nationally, while concluding two securitisation transactions with DLF Universal Ltd and Alacrity Housing Ltd.

Kumar's vision is to establish Colliers Jardines' pre-eminence in the Indian real estate market by delivering well-researched real estate solutions optimising the benefits from implementing professional and ethical real estate business.

Tandem vice-president

REINFORCING the importance of the region to its global operations, Tandem Computers Incorporated has named Peter Ciceri, vice-president and managing director for its Asia Pacific region.

Asia Pacific is a major growth area for Tandem. ``We are delighted to have a result-oriented manager of Peter's calibre to spearhead our continued development in the region,'' says John Losier, senior vice-president, Worldwide Sales and Services, Tandem.

Ciceri has held senior management positions in Asia-Pacific, including one as regional director for Hewlett-Packard Computer Systems India and as director of product marketing, Unisys Japan.

Mohile is DG, CEIB

S D Mohile, chairman of the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC), is the new director general, Central Economic Intelligence Bureau (CEIB).Mohile will also be special secretary, department of revenue, it was officially announced.

R Gopalanathan, member, CBEC, was appointed chairman, CBEC, and ex-officio special secretary in the department of revenue in place of Mohile.Rockwell CEO

Rockwell International Corp chairman and CEO Donald R Beall has announced his decision to step down to the company's board of directors. The corporation has elected current president and chief operating officer Don H Davis to the post Beall will vacate. Davis holds a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a Master's degree in business administration from Texas A & M University.New MD for MRPLS K Mukherjee has been nominated by the Hindustan Petroleum Corp. Ltd as managing director (tech) of MRPL for a period of five years consequent to the retirement of R M Bardhan.Mukherjee is a chemical engineer and holds a diploma in industrial management from Bombay University. He has 27 years of experience in the refining industry. He held the position of executive director (refineries coordination) in HPCL before taking over the current assignment.Micom appoints systems engineerMICOM Communications Corp., a Nortel (Northern Telecon) company, has appointed Sajan K Paul as their official systems engineer for India. Paul has been in the industry for five years.Paul will be responsible for designing and certifying networks, training engineers of MICOM distributors, conducting special audits of networks and validating network designs. ``MICOM has the best technology, global reach and is an established leader in the field of voice/data integration,'' says Paul.An electronics engineer by qualification, Paul has interests as varied as playing cricket and the guitar.Khairnar backTHE Bombay High Court, through a recent order, directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corp. (BMC) to reinstate the suspended deputy municipal commissioner, G R Khairnar, with all consequential benefits.Justice R M Lodha, in his order, stated that the general body resolution of the civic administration on October 10, 1996, to dismiss Khairnar was not correct and ordered his reinstatement with all benefits. Khairnar will resume office soon. Khairnar had challenged his dismissal through a writ petition.The crusader against corruption said: ``My honest efforts have reaped good results. The decision to remove me was taken under political pressure and great injustice was done to me.''He said his reinstatement was not only his victory over corruption, but also a victory for society. ``The developing pillars of corruption will have to be rooted out.'' u
