US container firm XTRA keen on long innings

MUMBAI, July 8: XTRA Corporation Inc of USA, which operates one of the world's largest container leasing companies, is looking to establish long-term relationships with Indian shipping companies, a top official of the company said. Frederick M Gutterson, president and chief executive officer of XTRA International, the US company's container leasing division, said: ``India offers huge business potential and we are committed to a significant presence here.'' The country is an important source of container manufacture for XTRA International, he recently told an industry meet in Mumbai. XTRA International has a total fleet size of over 225,000 teu in 20', 40' and 40' high cube dry freight containers. Its worldwide presence includes 14 area offices located throughout five continents, including an office in Mumbai. The company started operations in India in 1991.
