TVS Electronics hives off marketing unit

OUR BUREAU

CHENNAI, July 10: In a bid to focus on its core competency of indigenous design and manufacturing, the Chennai-based TVS Electronics Ltd (TVSE) has decided to spin off its manufacturing and service departments into two separate group companies structured along product lines.

TVSE's product range will now be marketed by Sundaram Infosel Ltd and Indmark Infocom. Infosel will market TVSE's entire range of printers, which include dot matrix, inkjet and laser printers. The latter two will be supported by Lexmark technology. Sundaram Infosel, to be headed by John Aravamuthan as president, will also look at opportunities in the south Asian markets.

Indmark Infocom will focus on the volume base and technology for Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems to offer a wide range of UPS systems. It will also develop the key board business through expansion of product range and will also market storage devices from IOMEGA, the world leader. Indmark Infocom will be headed by V Anantaraman as its president.

`The rationale for this exercise was to create focus around our core business in printing and power supplies and also leverage the TVS brand name in the infocom market", the company director Gopal Srinivasan said.

During1996-97 TVSE recorded a turnover of Rs 117 crore.
