Anuradha Ramachandran

CHENNAI, July 13: ANZ Grindlays has decided to lay greater emphasis on training its personnel.Appropriately named GRIT, Grindlays International Training centre plays a major role in the bank's operations and towards helping its personnel adapt to the increasing demands placed on banks.

GRIT director Shekar Sawant said, ``We are looking at providing need-based training solutions. We have no tailormade curriculum but prefer to identify the bank's needs and adapt our training programme to suit them''.

The training programme at GRIT has four main aspects: training in banking operations and processes, technical courses, which include foreign exchange and derivative management, behavioural training and an officers' training programme.

That apart, GRIT conducts annual training programmes in collaboration with the Foreign Exchange Dealers Association of India (FEDAI) in foreign exchange management and with other international banks in specialised subjects.

With ANZ all set to introduce a new system of operations called the `Commercial Banking System' (CBS) in place of its existing Banking Master System, the focus of the bank is on GRIT, which will train the personnel and play an important role in the implementation of the system.

The pilot of CBS will be done in Chennai, where GRIT is headquartered.Other areas include a risk management programme and a special sales training workshop for the direct selling agents (DSA) of the bank's credit card division.
