Monopolies panel to probe STC affairs

NEW DELHI, July 15: The Monopolies and restrictive trade practices commission (MRTPC) will investigate into the allegations of `unfair' trade practices resorted to by the public sector, State Trading Corporation (STC).

Hearing a complaint from an Amritsar based rice exporter, who alleged that STC adopted, ``unfair method or deceptive trade practices'', a division bench of the commission ruled, ``we are prima facie satisfied with the contention of the applicant''.

Stating that the notice of enquiry will be issued soon, the bench comprising Sardar Ali and U P Singh said: ``We further direct that ad interim injunction granted by the commission on May 10, 1996 shall continue till the disposal of the enquiry''.

The exporter alleged that STC manipulated the conditions of delivery of service in a manner imposing unjustified cost on the applicant.
