Rummaging through the risks

[Details] There are completely divergent views on the safety of investments in Indian securities markets. D R Mehta, chairman, Securities and Exchange Board of India keeps saying that the domestic markets are safer than ever before, but overseas fund managers feel that investment in India carries a high degree of risk, and is suitable for sophisticated investors who are aware of the risks investing in India.

High forex reserves may not be enough

[Details] In India, the government and industrialists are elated at the surging forex reserves which has reached $29 billion. But higher forex reserves should not lull us into complacency.

Rhetoric won't do

[Details] After the infrastructure panel report, there has been a lot of rhetoric about the strategy for removal of infrastructure constraints. Now the prime minister promises that the government would resolve most problems plaguing this crucial segment within a few weeks.
