Effective rate tariff for domestic area sale of finished import goods

[Details] The government has conceded more reliefs to 100 per cent export-oriented units (EoU) and those set up in export processing zones (EPZs). The domestic tariff area (DTA) sale of freely importable finished goods under 1997-2002 export-import policy will now attract "effective" rates of customs duty instead of the "tariff" rates of duty.

Budget promises have been largely met

[Details] The Union finance minister P Chidambaram yesterday said that his ministry had fulfilled almost eighty five per cent of the promises made in the budget this year.

VDIS petition dismissed; appeal in apex court likely
