Movers & Shakers -- Venkatraman to head Settlement Commission

August 12: H Venkataraman recently took over as the vice chairman of the Settlement Commission, IT and WT, additional bench Mumbai. This bench was earlier headed by S R Wadhwa. The Commission is open to any person who has not disclosed his full income before the assessing officer but wants to settle his tax disputes by making a disclosure of not only his concealed income and wealth but also the manner of deriving it. The Mumbai bench of the Commission has jurisdiction over cases arising in the states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Dahanukar banking on marketing tie-up Arun Dahanukar, CMD of Tilaknagar Industries, has tied up with Allied Domecq for marketing his company's brands. Allied Domecq is one of the world's largest spirit and wine companies with a product portfolio that includes scotch brands like Teacher's, Long John and Old Smuggler. Tilaknagar Industries has a commanded a strong presence in the domestic liquor market since 1973 with popular brands like Mansion House whisky, Savoy Club gin etc. Speaking about the tie-up, Dahanukar says that ``a company which is reckoned to be one of the world's largest in spirit and wine will surely bring in the expertise in marketing and quality management system. Both, our clients and brands will benefit from this alliance.'' Arun Dahanukar is a B.Tech from IIT Mumbai in electrical engineering. He is also a chartered engineer from the Institute of Engineers. Ghose appointed company secretary of Praxair India Prabir K Ghose has been appointed Company Secretary and General Manager (Finance) of Praxair India Pvt Ltd. A commerce graduate and a fellow member of the Institute of Cost and Work Accountants of India, Ghose has extensive experience in the area of corporate planning and budgeting, O&M and corporate banking. He is also an associate member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, London. Praxair India is a subsidiary of Connecticut headquartered Praxair Inc. The company is one of the largest industrial gases company in North and South America with 1996 sales of $4.6 billion. The company produces, sells and distributes atmospheric, process and speciality gases, and high performance surface coatings. It is also the largest supplier of carbon dioxide. In India, Praxair commenced operations in 1996 and supplies India's steel, chemicals, metal fabrication and other industries with oxygen, nitrogen and argon through cryogenic and advanced air separation plants, and other supply methods. Praxair plans to invest $200 million by year 2000. Mehta is director of BoA's global equity investments Kayu Mehta has taken over as director in the global equity investments wing of the Bank of America (BoA). Based in Mumbai, Mehta will be responsible for investing equity capital in private and public companies in India. BoA's Equity Investments group invest $ 750 million each year in a variety of diverse transactions around the globe. Rao becomes whole-time director of VHL The Board of Directors of Venkateshwara Hatcheries Ltd has appointed B Balaji Rao as a whole-time director of the company. Rao has been actively involved with the affairs of the company for the past three years. He is instrumental in enhancing the exports of the VH group. Given his organisational and management abilities, the Board felt it was in the fitness of things to appoint him as a full-time director of the company.
