Industry will soon go global

Most of the Indian industry had grown in the greenhouse. That was necessary for a nascent industry which could not be exposed to brutal competition right from the start. We were not the only country that followed this clever strategy.

Beyond corporate charity

The offer by a number of corporates to participate in a massive slum rehabilitation programme in Mumbai is good as far as it goes. But, if the private sector really wants to show its human face it would do so better through more active involvement in anti-poverty efforts.
