SIDBI to get more leeway in investments

[Details] The Union cabinet has decided to relax the investment norms for the Small Industries Development Bank of India (Sidbi). The cabinet decision to amend section 16 of the Sidbi Act will permit the institution to invest surplus funds in high-yielding financial instruments and thereby improve operational spread, profitability and competitiveness.

Centre invites bids for 3 road projects

[Details] The Union government has invited bids to design, build, finance and operate (DBFO) three road projects at an estimated cost of above Rs 600 crore. The projects are the 60 km Jaipur - Kishangar stretch on the National Highway-8, 70 km Hubli - Dharwar road in Karnataka and the 60 km Dindivanam-Chingelpet stretch in Tamil Nadu. The cost of project would be based on an estimation of Rs 3.5 to 4 crore per kilometer.

United Front Committee may shelve TPDS

[Details] The United Front steering committee is likely to pressurise the Union finance minister to release Rs 1,500 crore to the railways to avoid a second fare hike and finally dump the much-hyped targeted public distribution system (TPDS). The UF core committee would also be discussing the threats issued by the Congress.
