VSNL to set up Rs 110-cr earth station in Chennai

[Details] India's telecommunications gateway to the world, the Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL), is setting up a new earth station at a cost of over Rs 110 crore. The proposed centre is coming up near VSNL's existing Thiruvallur Earth Station (TES) in Chennai.

Bokaro Steel Plant to snip costs, beef up product quality

[Details] Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) of the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) will cut its costs by Rs 267 crore in 1997-98. It has already reduced its expenditure by Rs 80 crore in the first five months (April-August), according to its managing director KAP Singh.

Maruti Esteem races past rivals in first half of '97

[Details] Maruti Udyog Ltd (MUL) continues to race ahead in the competition. The Maruti Esteem retained the top slot in the luxury segment with sales of 9,259 vehicles in the first half of the current year, way ahead of General Motor India's Opel Astra, which clocked a sales of 5475 vehicles during the six-month period. Mahindra Ford India (MFIL) sold over 4,400 Escorts.
