HMT bags award for excellence

Bangalore, Nov 7: HMT Ltd has bagged the `Excellence in Standardisation 1996' award. The award was presented by the minister for environment and forests Saifuddin Soz, at the National Conference of Standardisation, Nacostan-97, held in New Delhi recently. The award is given by the Institute of Standards Engineers, a professional body of standards engineers, in recognition of HMT's outstanding work in standardisation during the years 1994-96 in the category of mechanical and automotive sector.

The company bagged the award despite stiff competition from others like SAIL and MICO a company release said. HMT has contributed substantially in the formulation of national standards in machine tools, horology, tractors, metal forming and other mechanical engineering areas. It has a well knit standards organisation structure and standardisation helped in getting ISO 9001 accreditation to fifteen HMT units.
