Govt to set up panel to review small savings schemes

[Details] The Union government will set up a committee to examine problems concerning small savings schemes in the country. This was decided at a meeting of state finance ministers yesterday. The meeting chaired by the Union finance minister P Chidambaram identified certain fundamental issues. There was also an overall consensus on the need to reduce the cost of administration of small saving schemes.

Customs dept against concessional duty on electronic hardware

[Details] The customs department is not favourably inclined to accepting a proposal of the electronics department for charging concessional rate of duty on electronic hardware products sold in the domestic market using indigenous components. The customs authorities had cited certain administrative problems as the reason for turning down the proposal. However, the electronics department is pursuing the issue with the customs department.

New automobile policy in a fortnight

[Details] The Union government is set to announce a new automobile policy within 15 days. The policy will be a modified version of the existing MoU policy. Major changes have been made in the existing policy to make it more transparent.
