Delhi confident of pact with US on import curbs

PTI

New Delhi, Nov 16: The centre on Sunday expressed confidence that it would succeed in bringing its most difficult trading partner, the United States, to agree to a six-year phase out of quantitative restrictions (QR) maintained by it on 2,700 import items.

Commerce ministry sources said the confidence emerged from the successful bilateral negotiations on the six-year phase out of quantitative import restrictions with the european union and Australia. India entered into bilateral negotiations with Australia, NZ, Switzerland, EU, US, Japan and Canada after some of them sought dispute settlement mechanism of the WTO.
