November 16: Jardine Fleming India has announced the appointment of Robert Gibson as managing director. In addition to his role as MD, Gibson will be responsible for the overall coordination of the Indian market activities globally. Besides, he will be directly responsible for the firm's research in India.

Gibson has worked for Robert Fleming (RF) since 1988 and until 1995 he headed the UK Diversified Industrials team. In the 1995 United Kingdom Securities Institute Survey of Finance Directors, Gibson was top-rated within the sector which included major companies such as Hanson and BTR. Between 1992 and 1995, Gibson was head of UK & European Research. From 1995, until moving to India in April 1997, he was in charge of developing RF's German product.

Jardine Fleming manages investments of over Rs 3,100 crore in the Indian capital markets. Through its offshore investment management subsidiaries, Jardine Fleming is advisor to several offshore mutual funds investing in India.
