ICAI note on new framework for minimum alternate tax payment

[Details] A new framework for payment of minimum alternate tax (MAT) has been issued through a guidance note for companies, laying the basis for the widespread introduction of tax effect accounting method. The guidelines have been issued by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for those companies which opt for the more transparent tax effect accounting method.

Kerala, China to sign pact for Rs 400cr Chaliyar small hydel power projects

[Details] THE 100 MW plus small hydel projects, proposed to be set up in the Chaliyar basin, may be the first of their kind to be commissioned in the shortest possible time in the history of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB). The credit for this will, however, be shared by the Chinese, who have agreed to part with the requisite technology and machinery. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the KSEB and the Chinese government is expected in January next year.

[Details] Despite abolition of liquor consumption and slackening of industrial growth, the Haryana government has maintained its lead as one of the top four states in terms of collection of excise and sales tax. The state has also seen a phenomenal rise in exports from Rs 438 crore five years ago to touch Rs 2200 crore.
