Sensex does a hip-hop, recovers 57 points

[Details] Led by ITC, stock prices across the bourses made a sound recovery on Friday. The BSE Sensitive Index gained 56.58 points over its previous close to finish the day at 3,523.44. The exchange recorded a net turnover of Rs 979 crore of which ITC alone contributed Rs 496 crore.

NSE keen on Saturday trading, evening sessions to prompt price discovery

[Details] The National Stock Exchange is keen on introducing a trading session on Saturdays apart from a daily evening session to enable round-the-clock price discovery. The exchange plans to solicit the views of its members on the proposal which stems from the recent turbulence in the international markets.

Punjab National Bank board clears maiden public issue

[Details] The board of directors of Punjab National Bank (PNB) on Friday cleared the proposal for the bank's maiden equity issue to be priced at a premium of Rs 61-75 per share. The issue is expected to open in January 1998. The bank will offer approximately seven crore shares.
