CHENNAI, November 23: The International Technology Mart - Intechmart - aimed to attract investments in the Indian leather tanning sector will coincide with India International Leather Fair in Chennai on February 5-9, 1998. Focus of Intechmart will also be on strengthening the tanning sector and modernise the segment. The event is designed to bring foreign tanners, who desire to invest in the Indian leather industry, are willing to enter into a technological collaboration, to India. Intechmart, according to a release, has been planned as an exclusive one, where one to one meeting will be arranged with Indian tanners.

The event is organised by the Council for Leather Exports (CLE) with the assistance of National Leather Development Programme under United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Along with Intechmart, yet another event - an international seminar on investment opportunities in footwear components industry will take place in Chennai on February 7, 1998.

All the events, including the India International Leather Fair will take place in a new venue, a modern indoor stadium in the heart of the city. Giving details about the Indian leather industry, the release said that the country is expected to increase its footwear production to 880 million pairs by the turn of the century from the existing capacity of 430 million pairs.
