Century Enka net up to Rs 15 crore, but sales trip

[Details] Century Enka, a BK Birla group company, has posted 42.59% increase in net profit at Rs 14.63 crore for the first half year ended September 30, 1997 against Rs 10.26 crore during the same period last year. However, the sales have shown a 15.2% drop at Rs 233.21 crore against Rs 275.01 crore.

[Details] US investment fund, EM Warburg Pincus, would be allowed to nominate one member on the board of the Rs 525 crore pharmaceutical major, Nicholas Piramal, by next year. The $7 billion US fund had recently received the clearance of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) to acquire a 9.99 per cent stake in Nicholas Piramal.

[Details] Brothers Mukesh and Anil Ambani of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) have been jointly conferred Business India's Businessman of the year 1997 award. Mukesh Ambani, 41, vice-chairman and Anil Ambani, 38, managing director, have together turned Reliance, a company set up by their father Dhirubhai Ambani, into a global powerhouse.
