Paper industry calls for sound policies for captive plantations

[Details] The paper industry has called for long term policies supported with fiscal incentives and tax benefits for development of captive forest plantation. The industry has warned that there would be stagnation and progressive closure of wood-based paper industries in the coming years if such policies are not formulated immediately.

Federation urges state to impose sales tax on imported sugar

[Details] The Maharashtra State Cooperative Sugar Factories Federation has appealed to the state government to impose sales tax on imported sugar by private traders for open market sales on the lines of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. The National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories and Indian Sugar Mills' Association (ISMA) has also stressed the need for imposition of import/countervailing duty of at least 30% ad valorem on imported sugar.

Orissa announces privatisation of electricity distribution companies

[Details] The government of Orissa has announced the privatisation of the four electricity distribution companies in the state. The distribution business is currently carried on by Grid Corporation of Orissa (Gridco) which also own and operates the power transmission business in the state.
