Customs goes in for information-based scrutiny to tone up service network

[Details] The Central Board of Customs and Excise has decided to concentrate more on risk management in the case of physical examination of indvidual import and export items, by strengthening its intelligence agencies and reducing scrutiny. A decision has been taken to bring the quality of customs' services to international standards in order to match the growing demands of international trade which has kept on increasing with the liberalisation of the Indian economy.

Foreign investors still upbeat

[Details] The recent political upheavals have not affected the investment programmes of foreign players, according to director of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Colette Mathur. Mathur, who was speaking at a press conference in New Delhi on Thursday, said that that India is still high on the global agenda and no company can bypass it.

Maharashtra keen to hardsell BOT concept for projects

[Details] The Maharashtra public works department (PWD) has convened a meeting of the chairmen and chief executive officers of various urban cooperative banks and entrepreneurs on December 8 to discuss issues pertaining to financing of build-operate-transfer (BOT) projects in the state. The meeting is being held with a view to instill confidence among the bankers and financial institutions and spell out the government's committment to carry out projects in the state, according to PWD deputy secretary RS Shinde.
