IBRD against govt guarantee to core projects

[Details] The World Bank is not in favour of the government providing guarantees to infrastructure projects. Instead, it feels that the government should use the guarantee route as a short-term policy till a complete regulatory framework is in place.

[Details] The standing committee on energy is understood to have submitted its report on the Transmission Bill to the Lok Sabha secretariat. This means that the report on the Bill will now come up before the first post-election session of the Parliament and will be accepted irrespective of which government comes.

[Details] India has done well in its liberalisation process but the pace is quite slow and the process not deep enough. The reforms should be speeded up and changes brought about fast, chairman of Investor AB of Sweden Percy Barnevik has said. Barnevik also stated that there were many ill-conceived ideas about the country in the minds of foreign investors and they needed to be removed.
