MUMBAI, Dec 16: Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) will conduct a field trial of its wireless in local loop (WiLL) services based on the indeginously-developed Cordect technology. According to company sources, the field trial, which will be undertaken in Mumbai and Delhi, is expected to begin by the end of January, 1998. It is also understood that the bids received by the company are being evaluated and a final decision will be taken soon, according to sources. The decision to conduct field trials of the Cordect technology based system is seen by telecom analysts as a boost to the domestically developed technology. Cordect, a variation of the European technology Digital Enhanced Cordless Telephony (DECT), has been developed by IIT, Chennai.
