Kalinga award announced
Prof Dorairajan Balasubramanian, director of the Centre for Cellular and Microbiology, Hyderabad, has been selected for 1997 Kalinga award for his extensive work as a science columnist and journalist for daily newspapers, writer and presenter of programmes on a wide range of science subjects for television and author of science books. The Kalinga prize was established at the initiative of the late chief minister of Orissa and founder chairman of the Kalinga Foundation Trust, Biju Patnaik. It is presented annually by Unesco to those with a distinguished career of service in the interpretation of science and research to the public. Many of the prize winners have been scientists in their own right, while others have been trained in journalism or have been educators or writers. The prize was first presented in 1952. Abnash Singh joins Digital Digital India has appointed Abnash Singh as vice-president, Operation Management Services & Systems. Singh is an engineer from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and has done his masters in business administration from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Singh has joined from Arvind Mills, where he was the vice-president, systems, and was responsible for the information technology support for the entire group.Prior to that, he has worked for eight years each with Hindustan Lever Ltd and with Telco at Pune. Kochar is addl judge, Bombay HC President K R Narayanan has appointed Rajan Jodhraj Kochar as additional judge of the Bombay High Court for a period of two years.
