Chartered accountants' chamber moves High Court on VDIS

[Details] With barely a fortnight left for its closure, the Voluntary Disclosure of Income Scheme (VDIS) has hit another snag. The Chambers of Chartered Accountants (CCA) has moved the Delhi high court for a restraint on reviewing declarations. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) had issued notices for re-examining declarations recently.

Trai notifies cut in "provisional" Internet tariffs

[Details] The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) on Tuesday notified reduced `provisional' Internet tariffs which will be effective from January 1, 1998. Tariff will now be based on three time slabs - 100 hours for Rs 3,000, 250 hours for Rs 6,500 and 500 hours for Rs 10,000, for dial up internet services.

[Details] Exports through the air route from eastern states have suffered a setback due to scarcity of space in international freighters and cargo at the Caclutta's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. A spokesperson commented that the available air cargo capacity in freighters and passenger airlines from the city is not enough to meet the demand.
