CAG pulls up Tea Board for misuse of govt funds towards research projects

The Comptroller & Auditor General (CAG) has come down heavily on the Tea Board for sanctioning government funds under the eighth five-year plan for research projects which have the same objectives. The CAG has criticised the board's non-commitment towards undertaking any kind of periodic assessment of the five research & development schemes during the eighth five-year plan.

Cong plays down desertions, calls them liabilities

The Congress was on the defensive on the spate of desertions from its ranks and issued a veiled warning to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) against admitting them to its fold. Seeking to play down the incidents, Congress spokesman VN Gadgil said the BJP would soon find the new entrants a liability.

Mini-ratna boards' recast only after change of guards at Centre

The Search Committee formed by the Government to select non-official directors for the 97 mini-ratna PSUs will take at least three months to finish the task. As a result the actual restructuring of the mini-ratna boards is likely to happen only when a new Government takes charge after general elections.
